It's hard to believe the holiday season is already here! December is always a busy month for everyone at St. Mary's, but it is a very exciting month as well! The students had their Christmas program on December 14, and they did a fabulous job! They have all been working very hard on this program since October, and it was very easy to see that their hard work paid off!
The 3rd-6th grade students at St. Mary's also had the opportunity to go Christmas caroling again at various local assisted living facilities. The residents loved having the studens spread some Christmas cheer, and the students did a wonderful job singing.

The 6th grade band students also put on a mini band concert for the 4k-3rd grade students at St. Mary's. The 6th grade band students went from classroom to classroom where they played Christmas music and had the students guess what songs they were playing for them. The 6th grade band students are quite talented :)
Every Wednesday in 6th grade we have a "Team Meeting" where we talk about important topics, play team-building games, or do group projects to strenghen our cooperation and communication skills. Our first December Team Meeting we worked on a Christmas door decoration for our classroom, the boys in our class really took charge and did a wonderful job keeping everyone included, as well as encouraging their classmates. We also discussed ALICE and what our procedure is if there was ever an intruder in our school. We were lucky enough to have Officer Bongle come to our school to talk more with our students about ALICE. One game we played during one of our Team Meetings required the students to get a partner and two shape cards per person. They then had to sit back to back with their partner who had a blank piece of paper and a pencil and describe their shape to their partner who then had to draw it on their paper. This was a lesson in communication and listening skills. This game was a lot of fun, and quite funny when we shared what they were describing vs how it turned out. We then discussed how we could have better communicated with one another.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of St. Mary's students, staff, and parish members!
