February was a very busy month at St. Mary's! From Catholic Schools Week, to the Cakewalk, to our 5th and 6th grade field trip, the students at St. Mary's have had a lot of fun this month!
We had a great time during Catholic Schools Week. As always we started out CSW with student lead mass and the students did a wonderful job at mass! We started out the school week with mass with a special person and a craft. It was so great to see all of the parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, and everyone who came to St. Mary's! Tuesday we went to Holy Trinity for mass with Bishop Ricken and some juice and cookies after mass. When we returned back to St. Mary's we had a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) afternoon. The students really enjoyed doing STEM activities :) Wednesday students painted mugs for ZoupArt and we had pajama day! Thursday we had a formal lunch with the teachers and staff at St. Mary's followed by an ice cream social! To conclude CSW the entire school went bowling on Friday where we enjoyed bowling, pizza, and some fun time with our friends!
The 6th graders did an amazing job at the Cakewalk this year! We had some extra challenges facing us with year with the church being renovated, but we were able to have our Cakewalk in Parish Hall this year which allowed for some extra room for the kids. All of the kids had a great time play games and winning prizes!
The 5th and 6th graders went on a field trip Friday, February 17 to "Mind Trekkers" and the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary. Michigan Technological University’s Mind Trekkers STEM Road Shows bring the WOW! of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to the hands and minds of K-12 students under the inspirational guidance of the Mind Trekkers team consisting of undergraduate and graduate students. Have you been inside a bubble? Can you skewer a balloon without popping it? Play a piano with bananas for keys? Let Mind Trekkers be your guide as you explore the excitement of STEM. The students loved the activities at Mind Trekkers! We then went to the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary where we ate lunch and had some time to explore their nature center before we had a chance to get an closeup look at some native Wisconsin animals. We had the chance to learn about, and touch, a fox snake, a skunk (her spray glands were removed), and a short ear owl. The student enjoyed learning about the animals and having the chance to feel the animals. We had a great time on our field trip and the students did a fantastic job representing St. Mary's School!
